With the height of the spring break travel season upon us, many scrapbookers are heading out to soak up the sun, sand and surf. However, unless they’re thinking ahead, many of them may be missing the boat when it comes to capturing magical moments to preserve in travel scrapbooks.
The key to crafting an exceptional vacation-themed memory book is to plan layouts while you are still enjoying your trip. Don’t wait to create. I learned that from a scrapbooking seminar I attended last year. Basically, it means that you should be formulating your game plan while you in the moment. For example, don’t skimp on pictures. Be ready to snap important vacation events. In addition, keep a little notebook on hand so that you can jot down memories of interesting things you’ve seen or done while on vacation. You might also consider writing down some of the funnier moments or ones which were less than desirable. Those entries will serve you well when you are constructing journaling blocks on your layouts.
Whether you are traveling to a tropical locale to work on your tan or your family vacation finds you on the side of a mountain working on your rock climbing skills, don’t forget to save mementos. Saving items as simple as a theater ticket or an ostrich feather from a trip to the San Diego Zoo to more elaborate offerings, such as a rare stamp from a trip to a national museum or miniature lei from Hawaii, will pay off big time when you are putting together your travel scrapbook.
Once you get home from your trip you can use all of the items you saved to create one-of-a-kind memory albums. By flexing your creative muscle you can add some personal touches with your vacation stash. For example, you could use paper maps from zoos, cities or museums you visited as background paper in your scrapbook. Simply adhere your photos to the map paper, add a journaling block and some stamps or stickers, and you’ve got the makings of a fabulous travel-themed layout.
