I have written many blogs that point out where to find free eBooks for your Kindle. Did you know that there are free eBooks for NOOK, too? These are completely legal to download, and come from the Barnes & Noble website. Barnes & Noble is the company that sells the NOOK eReader.
I thought it would be nice to start out with some books that are Classics. These are the books that you probably were assigned to read while you were in school. It can be very enjoyable to read them years after you have left school, at your own pace, and without having to worry about taking a test about the book later on. Here are a few classic books that you can download for FREE onto you NOOK right now.
The Time Machine was written by H.G. Wells. I have heard it said that this book was one of the first, if not the first, science fiction books ever written. Obviously, it involves time travel, and a time machine. I think it would be really interesting to use a NOOK eReader to read this particular classic.
Wurthering Heights was written by Emily Bronte. This one has the characters Heathcliff and Cathy, who believe that they are destined to love each other forever. Unfortunately, a series of circumstances separate them, and each lets their untamed emotions consume them.
The Scarlet Letter was written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The A stands for “adultery”. Hester Prynne is punished for this crime, after becoming pregnant without being married. She keeps the father of her child a secret. Eventually, his guilt overcomes him.
A Tale of Two Cities was written by Charles Dickens. This is the book that begins with the famous phrase: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…” The story takes place during the French Revolution.
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer was written by Mark Twain. It features three children, Tom, his best friend Huck Finn, and their friend Becky. This is the story where one of the characters tricks the other into whitewashing a fence. It is good to know the story that this incident came from, and the context of it, because the phrase “whitewashing” often refers to situations of trickery.
Jane Eyre was written by Charlotte Bronte. This is a coming of age story of a very independent and strong-willed female character, Jane Eyre. She rises above some really bad situations, and becomes a governess. Things change after she falls in love with her employer.
