Dream Cruise for Families

The cruise industry is hyped about the maiden voyage of Disney’s newest vessel. The massive ship can hold 4,000 passengers. It features 14 decks and more than 1,200 staterooms. The Disney Dream sails from Port Canaveral, Florida, to Nassau and Castaway Cay in the Bahamas on cruises of three to five nights. Currently, Disney’s website is showing cruise-only fares starting at $1,150 per person for a three-night cruise in an inside stateroom in March, and from $1,718 for a four-night cruise in April.

Shore excursions are not included in the base price. However, they are what caught my eye as being one of the most exciting parts of any Disney cruise. Adventures by Disney offers one-of-kind, guided, land-based tours for the entire family, though they are kid-centric in nature. The shore excursions include a Disney touch. For example, your kids can get animation lessons with Pinocchio on some excursions. Other exciting adventures include belly dancing in Tunisia and going sword-to-sword with pirates in Barcelona.

Of course, all this unique fun comes with a pretty steep price tag. A European shore excursion with Adventures by Disney rings up at more than $2,000 for kids. However, the price includes the guided tours, meals off the ship and extras like photos, souvenirs and tips.

If you have adventurous children and a big wallet, then the money may be well spent. Adventures by Disney is one of the only shore excursion programs that offer local guides who speak English and interpret different scenes in the most kid-friendly way possible.

Also, age is not a factor when it comes to exploring different regions with Adventures by Disney. Toddlers to teens are welcome, as are parents and grandparents. Disney likes to make things family friendly, so they design the excursions to appeal to passengers of all ages.
