Dressing Up for Thanksgiving Dinner

left

What outfit do you don before sitting down to gorge on your Thanksgiving feast?

Some families have a tradition of wearing their Sunday best to celebrate the festive holiday meal, while others throw on their comfiest elastic waist pants and chow down like there’s no tomorrow.

Then, there are those families. You know; the ones that take Turkey Day to a whole new level. Rather than sport a suit or sweats to the dinner table, they dress up like our country’s first settlers or the centerpiece of the celebratory buffet.

If you are looking to spice up your turkey dinner, then consider putting on a gobbler getup to serve the bird. Party City and CostumeSuperCenter.com have incredibly detailed full-body turkey suits for adults complete with adjustable head pieces and turkey leg covers. The costumes are generously cut and feature breathable material, so you can get your gobble on without breaking a beak. The plush costumes are also flame retardant and include a red wattle and snood, large eyes, and yellow beak.

If you prefer to go with a more traditional look, then have the entire clan dress up as pilgrims. Your kids will especially love to pretend that they just stepped off the Mayflower. What’s more, it’s not too challenging to recreate the outfits the first settlers wore to the original Thanksgiving get-together. Kids can don black hats with gold square accents, along with a black shirt with white lapels and oversized cuffs, and a black skirt or black kickers with white knee-high socks.

Another option is to dress up as the Native Americans who also partied at Plymouth Rock on the very first Thanksgiving. Girls can sport store-bought Indian princess costumes or simply wear a brown dress with tan trim, and then complete the look with beaded or feathered headdresses. Meanwhile, boys can wear leather fringe shirts, brown pants, moccasins and a matching feathered headband.
