Well, that was awkward… to put it mildly.
A Christmas miracle occurred on CBS’ “The Price is Right” yesterday and host Drew Carey could not have cared less.
It was a feat that hasn’t happened in more than 30 years. A couple days ago a contestant on “The Price is Right” nailed the price of his showcase down to the exact dollar. The DOLLAR.
A guy named Terry bid $23,743 on his showcase featuring a trailer, a jukebox and a host of other high priced goodies, and the actual retail price of his showcase was $23,743.
Unbelievable!
Actually, completely unbelievable.
The achievement has only been accomplished once before in the game show’s nearly 40-year history. But, Terry’s stunning victory wasn’t the only reason this story has made headlines.
The fact that host Carey barely flinched when announcing the winning bid is what is drawing ire from “Price is Right” fans.
Honestly, you have to see it to believe.
Carey, who took over for veteran host Bob Barker a couple of years ago barely bats an eye while revealing that Terry made game show history. Seriously, sirens are blaring, the audience is going nuts and Carey is standing there seemingly more concerned about reminding viewers to get their pets spayed or neutered.
And don’t think that Carey’s less than enthusiastic reaction was a case of being stone-cold stunned because according to reports, when Drew discovered that the contestant hit the exact number he shut down taping of the show. Witnesses say Carey met with show producers for nearly 30 minutes to discuss the situation. Then, when the cameras started rolling again, Carey announced the winning bid in about the most dead-toned manner as possible. I mean geesh, the guy sounds half-asleep bordering on annoyed.
Heck, it’s not like the prizes were paid with money from Carey’s paycheck. What’s more, Terry had already won $500 in cash for nailing the exact price of a cooker earlier in the show. The least Carey could have done was pretend to be excited for him.
I wonder what Barker has to say about his replacement’s zombie-like demeanor?
