The photo above was edited by my lovely daughter. I think she approved of my cake design but it can be hard to tell with a teenager. I made this cake for my fourth daughter’s first birthday. It was fun and easy to make. I have been asked to make this cake for a baby shower as well so it has a few applications. I thought I would share this idea since it is so easy to make.
Supplies:
Clear piping gel (you can find it at your local baking supply shop)
Graham Crackers
White buttercream frosting
Blue food coloring
Rubber duck (you can add some little rubber ducks as well)
Directions:
Frost a two layer round cake with the white buttercream frosting. Frost the top even though you will be applying the water effect on top as well.
Add blue food coloring to the piping gel until you reach your desired color. Try a very small amount at first with a toothpick. You can always add more but you cannot take away.
Apply the piping gel to the top of the cake. Do not smooth the frosting but press down and flip a bit up to give it a wave like look. Cover the entire top of the cake.
Now apply the graham crackers to the sides of the cake going all the way around. I used an 8 inch round cake which did not require me to break apart the graham crackers. Depending on the size of your cake or the look you want you may want to break the graham crackers at the perforated line and then apply.
Add the rubber duck to the top of the cake.
Using your white buttercream frosting and a large frosting tip apply “dots” randomly to the top of the cake and on the duckie to give a bubble bath effect.
Have fun!
