Dude, You’re Gonna Be a Dad!

Dude, You’re Gonna Be a Dad! How to get (both of you) through the next 9 months. By John Pfeiffer

My brother and his wife are expecting their first baby. As an avid reader my gift is always books. I went to the bookstore and bought books for my sister in law and my favorite book for the baby, Love You Forever, and I noticed they had books for Dad’s. I bought this one for my brother and it’s hilarious!

The book is broken up by trimester to tell the new dad everything he should expect, with a touch of humor. The first trimester tells him how to care for his newly pregnant wife, everything from out of control hormones to morning sickness. The book tells the dad to be what to expect at doctor’s appointments, and which ones are most important for him to attend.

There are baby naming rules, for example- Don’t try to sneak in the names of old girlfriends or your online avatar. Then he goes on to offer a reward to any man who can convince his wife to give his child the middle name Danger.

The second chapter deals with things like Braxton Hicks contractions, baby showers, birth plans and cord blood. Everything a guy never wanted to know, but he’s going to find out anyway.

The third trimester talks about packing a bag and the freak out- or the time when all parents to be look at each other and say “What were we thinking? We’re not ready for this!”

Then there’s the birth with a section called Bad things, man bad things. On this list are the color and odor of the water when it breaks, someone is going to poop their pants and cutting the cord.

Finally it’s time to take Junior home, including how to handle visitors and helping Mom get adjusted to taking care of herself and this new little person.

This book is so cute, and perfect for men, it lays out all the things that can happen and throws in a good dose of humor and the occasional sports analogy. It’s perfect for any dads to be on your list.
