Duggar Family Has 18th Baby

baby foot By now you may be familiar with the Duggar Family, an Arkansas family with a large number of children. Today it was announced that Michelle Duggar just gave birth to her 18th child, named Jordyn-Grace Makiya Duggar. Little Jordyn weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and was delivered by Cesarian.

This family has a thing not only for having many kids (obviously) but also naming them with names that start with the letter J. In the family, there is Joshua, 20 and now married; Jana, 18; John-David, 18; Jill, 17; Jessa, 16; Jinger, 14; Joseph, 13; Josiah, 12; Joy-Anna, 11; Jeremiah, 9; Jedidiah, 9; Jason, 8; James, 7; Justin, 6; Jackson, 4; Johannah, 3; Jennifer, 1 and of course little and Jordyn-Grace. Fortunately, J is a letter with many different names. Perhaps next time they will even have a Jane, a June, a Jonathan or a Jake.

The Duggar family gets a lot of media and Internet attention both positive and negative. Some admire this family greatly, while others think that they are off their rockers. To me, they are just a family celebrating another miracle of birth, no more, no less.

But it does bring up an issue I wanted to discuss. For anyone out there who has more than two children, do you sometimes feel that society judges you in a negative way? I have three children myself, with my youngest two only 20 months apart. As a family, we sometimes get certain comments such as “Boy you didn’t waste any time,” “Better you than me,” You certainly have your hands full (this last always said to my husband and not me, presumably to include me as one of his burden), and “Was the last one an accident?” If a family of five is getting these comments, I can only imagine what a family of, six, seven, eight or more must hear.
