The other day I talked about how starting the day off with a yoga practice is helpful for bringing the stress relief yoga benefits with you throughout the day. There are several DVDs with yoga practices designed for the morning. One that I have and like is Rodney Yee’s AM Yoga for Your Week.
The DVD contains five yoga practices, so you can use a different one each day of the week. Each practice concentrates on a different type of yoga pose, for example, backbends, twists, or forward bends. The poses are pretty basic, so the DVD works well for less experienced yogis.
The sessions are short, just twenty minutes each, which makes it easier to fit the practice in during your hectic morning routine. Taking this short amount of time to stretch, open your body and center the mind will make a difference in how you greet the day and help you meet challenges throughout the day, whether you are heading out to work or staying home with the kids.
One thing I enjoy about this DVD is the feature that allows you to choose between minimal or detailed instruction. The instruction is given in voice over by Rodney Yee. The choice of the minimal instruction is nice after you have used the DVD a few times and don’t want to hear the detailed version.
Although this is a DVD designed for morning practice, it can be used at any time of day. Some people who use yoga in combination with weight training, aerobics or other exercise, may find the short practices in this DVD to be the perfect counterbalance to the workout routine.
Here is one tip that is not listed on the box: Yee uses a yoga strap in a few of the practices, so it is a good idea to have a strap handy. If you don’t have a strap, you can use the belt to a bathrobe.
