Although many people view yoga and meditation as separate and the practices are often separated in classes, CDs and DVDs, yoga and meditation are very much connected. If you are interested in practicing both yoga and meditation at home and want a good resource to start with, the DVD Om Yoga and Meditation Workshop may be the right choice for you.
Instructors David Nichtern and Cyndi Lee have developed a workshop that guides the student through yoga and meditation for a well rounded practice that offers physical, emotional and spiritual benefits.
David Nichtern begins the meditation workshop with a discussion that contains valuable guidelines for practicing mindfulness. After listening to the instruction and guidelines, you will get the chance to practice in a simple guided meditation. There are five meditation sessions, each about 15 minutes long.
The yoga portion of Om Yoga and Meditation Workshop is led by yoga instructor Cyndi Lee. This portion of the practice contains four yoga segments. Each yoga practice is about 15 minutes long and provides benefits for users of all experience levels.
Although the yoga segments are designed for beginners and intermediate level students, some of the sequences may be a little quick and the poses a bit advanced for a beginner. Cyndi Lee doesn’t give a lot of instruction during the practices. If you are a beginner, this could be frustrating. However, if you have been practicing for a while and prefer less talking, you may enjoy less instruction. If you are fairly new to yoga, you can watch before you try the sequences.
Om Yoga and Meditation Workshop contains the yoga and meditation sessions and more. The practices are presented separately on the DVDs, but complement each other. Also included are a music CD and a booklet with information about yoga and meditation that many students find very helpful.
