Waiting until the last minute to do some of the preparations for your garage sale, is simply not a good idea. Of course, there are going to be things you have to do that morning, that couldn’t be done before that day. However, the majority of your work should have been completed before you went to sleep the previous night.
Things that should be done PRIOR to garage sale day:
- Items cleaned, fixed and/or tested to see if they work.
- Getting change to have on hand.
- Items priced and tagged.
- Any signs should already be up, or made.
- Help should have already been solicited, and a back up plan for a rainy day should already be prepared.
You should rise at least one hour or more before the start of your garage sale. This gives you time to get dressed, wake up, brew coffee, get something to eat and set up.
Things that should be done that morning before the garage sale officially opens:
- Recheck that all items are cleaned.
- Sweet the garage or driveway and remove any debris that might have landed there overnight.
- Check to be sure trash cans and other items are out of the way.
- Be sure all items have price tags on them.
- Be sure that all items are presented well, and will be easy to browse.
- Make sure your cash box is stocked and ready to go.
- Check to be sure that snacks and drinks are handy and that a phone is with you at all times.
- Move your cars away from your driveway, so there is more parking, and nothing blocking anyone’s view of your sale.
Everyone is faced with last minute preparations, but if you make sure to complete most tasks in advance, the day of the sale will go smoothly, with no kinks or upsets.
Your goal is to make the most money possible, so ensuring your sale runs smoothly and you are prepared as early as possible, will help greatly with this.
