If the finances are tight, then figuring out how to gain the money to be able to afford the holidays can be daunting. Besides the presents, there is food, decorating, charity gifts and more. Sometimes the solution is to simply earn some extra money in order to afford the holidays. I like this idea much better than going into credit card debt.
If you find yourself in this situation, or if you simply want to be able to sail through the holidays without extra bills, try one of these ideas for earning extra holiday money.
Have a yard or virtual yard sale
Since the new year is a great time for new things, why not go out with the old and then sell it? You can have a yard sale to earn the extra cash you need. If the weather won’t cooperate, have a virtual yard sale by posting your items online on Craigslist or Ebay. You can also take things into a consignment store just in time for the holidays.
Find ways to save
With one phone call, you may be able to save hundreds of dollars. You can combine your home and auto insurance, choose a lower cable plan, find a new less expensive phone carrier, get rid of your outside storage fee, etc. Other smaller ways to save include taking a homemade lunch to work instead of buying (or skipping the dinner out), using coupons at the grocery store, hanging laundry, etc. Check out all of the past frugal blog posts for thousands of ideas.
Get a part time job
There is always a need for seasonal help. You can work just a few hours on nights or weekends to earn enough for what you need. As a bonus, if you work in a store, then you should be entitled to an employee discount! Keep that in mind when you turn in your applications.
