Earning Gift Cards on the Web

Have you ever been art of one of those websites where you collect points for prizes? I am a sucker for them.

For some reason, every single site I ever visit like this makes it seem like I’ll have a constant stream of gift cards coming my way. I will never have to pay for anything again, I will only use gift cards.

I usually get really excited about the site as soon as I start and will work up enough to be maybe 25% of the way to my gift card goal in the first week. Usually empowered by this, I think that I am only a few days away from receiving my prize. Undoubtedly that day will turn into a few days, then a week, then a month, then I’ll forget I ever signed up for the site to begin with and never get my prize.

I think in my lifetime on the internet I have probably earned $100 in gift cards. $100 worth of earnings, of the course of several years; and probably a hundred different online gift card programs.

I think the programs are designed to make you fail. While I may have not earned anything I am positive the companies I did the programs through earned something through my participation. I did sign up for “offers” that cost me more than my potential gift card would have been, and gave all of the websites an exceptional amount of web traffic.

Does anyone else get sucked into these? How many of you are successful with them? I think my main issue is that I lack the determination to finish. Finishing is possible, but I start off strong and then lose interest in the site way too quickly. Besides those of you who work on the internet, how many of you “earn” things like gift cards on the internet, what do you earn?
