Easy and Affordable Super Bowl Party

The Giants take on the Patriots a week from Sunday during Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis. This weekend the Pro Bowl kicks off in Honolulu, but since that’s not a real game, you can focus your attention on getting ready for your annual NFL Championship pigskin party.

Fortunately, you don’t have to put a major dent in your budget to host a Super Bowl shindig. Rather, with a little strategic planning you can have fun rooting for your favorite team and score points with your family members and friends, all while preserving your bottom line. Here’s how:

Keep it Casual: You don’t need to bust out your fine china to entertain at a Super Bowl party. Instead, keep the soiree casual and don’t freak out if your guests get rowdy while watching the game. This type of party calls for paper plates, plastic cups and plenty of comfy couches.

Finger Food: When planning the menu for your pigskin-themed party forget about formal dishes and concentrate on a menu that features finger foods. Sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers and tacos make great grub for munching and watching the popular sporting event. In addition, you’ll want to keep a variety of snack foods on hand, such as chips and dip, pretzels, popcorn and crackers. Preserve your furniture and your sanity by sticking with foods that won’t leave stains.

Decor: At a Super Bowl shindig guests are more interested in who wins the game rather than how beautiful your home looks. Consequently, it is not necessary to go to the trouble of recreating Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Instead, stick with modest football theme decor, such as banners, pennants, and balloons in your favorite team’s colors. If you have an old football helmet or other sports-related memorabilia you could use it as part of a centerpiece.
