Easy Fixes When Frugal Goes Too Far

I just read a blog about a Frugalista who may have gone too far.

Some of the frugal things that frugal people have done that may have gone too far, and some simple remedies to fix them are:

Turning underwear inside out: I hear men do this. I can’t imagine any self respecting woman doing this however. Why wear them dirty when you can hand wash your dirty undies while you are taking a shower. While it takes some time to dry, planning one day ahead of time will allow you clean underwear to wear the next day.

Refusing to rent a GPS unit on vacation: Even with a GPS unit, you can still get very lost when on vacation. A good Street Atlas can save you on both accounts. Learn to read a map and you won’t need to spend the money on a GPS unit.

Pouring half finished glasses of beverages back into the container: I find it much more sanitary to place that glass on a piece of paper with the name of the person show started drinking it written on it. The next time they come to the kitchen for something to drink, it will be waiting for them.

Buying bootleg: Too many frugal people purchase brand name knock off items and download movies, music, and software. This is not frugal, it is criminal. Every time you participate in these activities, you drive legitimate prices up. It is better to do without than to steal.

Buying your kids shoes too big to save money. Counting on little feet to continue to grow at record speed, many parents will buy shoes a half to a full size too big. The problem is that too bit shoes can cost you in trips and falls and visits to the hospital. To save money on kids shoes, go ahead and buy them too big when you find a great sale, but save those too big shoes until they fit your kid.
