It’s almost Halloween, are you ready? When Hailey was smaller we planned Halloween costumes in advance. After I got divorced it was more flying by the seat of our pants and seeing what we could put together with what we had. So this post is about fun, easy and inexpensive Halloween costumes you can make with things you may already have at home.
An angel= this is so cute for the little girls. All you need is a white sheet and some kind of belt or cord. Fold the sheet in half, cut out a hole for their head and use safety pins to pin the sleeves so they hang like wings. Tie a belt or cord around their waste and make a halo out of pipe cleaners hot glued to a headband.
A jack in the box= This costume is so cute and easy I even made a bigger one for me one year. Cute the bottom off a box, cut the top off on three sides, paint, add some straps for them to wear over their shoulders. When Hailey wore this she wore footie pajamas that I stitched felt circles to and I put her hair in a bunch of little pig tails so it stuck out all over her head. Some rosy cheeks, a red nose and they are ready to go.
A flower in a flower pot= Make the flower pot out of a cardboard box that you cut open and duct tape back together. Paint the pot, make some petals out of poster board and hot glue them to a wide ribbon you can tie under your child’s chin.
A crayon= Some felt, hot glue and a little time is all it takes, if you have several children they can all be crayons in their favorite colors. Felt is inexpensive and hot glue will hold it together through the night.
Remember, they don’t need fancy bags to collect their candy in. Pillowcases work just fine, no need to spend money on something they will use once and toss. If you are feeling inspired you can let the kids decorate pillow cases with fabric paint and use them year after year.
There are plenty of times that money just seems to run through your fingers, Halloween doesn’t have to be one of them.
