In my experience, it is much easier to stay on the Atkins diet when you are at home, than it is to find Atkins approved food from a restaurant. While I am fortunate enough to work from home, I realize that most people are going to be eating at work or at school. Here are some easy to eat low carb snacks.
Most of the snack foods that I have enjoyed while doing the Atkins diet require the use of a refrigerator. If you are at work, this might not be a problem. Break rooms tend to include a refrigerator. Get yourself a cute little bento box to help keep everything separate.
If you are a college student who is on the go, then you may want to limit yourself to the snacks that don’t require refrigeration in order to remain safe to eat. Another idea is to have these snacks waiting at home for you, so you can quickly grab them while studying.
One of the first snack foods I found when I started the Atkins diet was sugar free jello. This snack is zero carbs. You can eat this snack no matter what Phase of the Atkins diet you happen to be on. Sugar free jello comes in packs that usually include two flavors, which gives you some variety.
Hard boiled eggs are great! Have it with a stick of celery, or all by itself. One hard boiled egg is less than one carb, and celery doesn’t add much more. You probably won’t need to add salt to it. I found this to be a rather filling snack.
Cheddar cheese is another tasty snack. Check to make sure that the cheese you selected is low-carb, because not all of them are. Other types of cheese can vary in carbs. You can eat ΒΌ a cup of cheddar cheese without adding any carbs to your day. This type of cheese tastes good with a stick of celery, in my opinion.
When in doubt, try the Atkins foods. There are a variety of Atkins bars to choose from. Be careful, though, if you are in Phase one of the diet. Most of them are designed for people who are in Phase two or higher. My favorite is the chocolate chip variety. Each of these bars are either three or four carbs. They are individually wrapped, and do not require refrigeration, which makes them easy to carry with you.
Another great snack is string cheese with cherry tomatoes. This makes for a very colorful plate of food. One entire small tomato is 4.2 carbs. You kind of have to guess about how many tiny tomatoes are equivalent to one entire small tomato. There are many varieties of string cheese, but I find that the mozzarella version goes nicely with the cherry tomatoes. Each stick of this kind of string cheese is less than one carb.
