Easy Ways to Go Green for St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day is a major deal at my daughter’s school. She attends a Catholic school, which honors the patron saint of Ireland and engineers. As part of Thursday’s celebrations students are allowed to ditch their standard red, white and blue uniforms and go green.

My first grader loves non-uniform days and since green is her favorite color she is determined to go all out for St. Patrick’s Day. This, of course, meant that we had to haul it over to Party City the other day because wearing her “Mom’s Good Luck Charm” shirt and green pants simply wasn’t going to cut it this year.

If you don’t feel like wearing green from head to toe in an elaborate costume or if you are like my daughter and simply can’t get enough of the garden fresh color, then consider adding a few simple St. Patrick’s Day-themed accessories to your outfit. The following items will show off your holiday spirit and help you to avoid the traditional pinch from friends and family:

*Shamrock suspenders

*Green top hat

*Shamrock eyeglasses

*Lime green wig

*”Kiss Me I’m Irish” tiara

*Leprechaun hat with beard

*Foam green beer mug hat

*Green and white striped socks

*Pot of gold earrings

*Rainbow headband

By embellishing your everyday outfit with green accessories you can save money and still look festive when attending a St. Patrick’s Day party or holiday event. Many of the aforementioned items are readily available at party and costume shops, as well as big box discount retailers, such as Wal-Mart and Target.

I could have saved so much money outfitting my daughter had I just planned ahead of time. After St. Patrick’s Day sales have stores and websites slashing prices up to 75 percent off on popular holiday merchandise. The same is true if you shop online. Sites such as CostumeCraze.com, CostumeDicounters.com and CostumeHolidayHouse.com offer amazing savings on a variety of St. Patrick’s Day paraphernalia in the days following March 17th.
