Eating Healthy at Birthday Parties

One of the biggest challenges to staying on a diet is eating out or going to parties. Parties often do not offer diet friendly food. It is also so easy to be tempted and have one piece of cake or a scoop of ice cream. While, one day of fun should not wreck your entire diet it can lead you on a path of diet destruction. So here are tips to have fun and eat right:

Eat Before You Go: To curb temptation eat before you go to the party. Unless you know the food selection will offer something that falls in line with your diet it is best to not risk it and eat a good meal before attending a party. When you are full you will be less likely to be tempted to eat sugary foods or at least over eat sugary foods.

Monitor Your Portions: If the selection at the party is not the best for dieting then monitor your portions. A small piece of cake should not destroy your diet. You should choose between having the cake or the ice cream instead of combing the two. I know it is birthday tradition to have cake and ice cream but the combination can kill a diet. I suggest having the ice cream instead of the cake. Most of the time a regular half cup serving of ice cream will contain less fat and calories than a piece of cake.

Eat Wise Before and After the Party: Prepare by eating wise before the party. Before you attend make sure you have little sugar and drink plenty of water and possibly go under on calories for the meals before the party. This will give you the leeway to eat at the party without too much worry of wrecking your diet. Do not starve yourself before the party or after as that will work in the opposite direction and your body will want to hold onto all the sugar and fat. Be wise and you should be fine.
