Ebay: Write an Ad that Sells, Part 1

The only way to make money on Ebay is if you sell your products. The only way to sell your products is to entice bidders with an ad they cannot resist. Droves of bidders come to Ebay by the minute just looking for an item worth a bidding war. The item at the center of that bidding war could be your item. Isn’t that what all Ebay sellers desire? The rush of watching the bid on your item go up and up right until the very last minute. How can you write an ad that inspires a war?

Build Your Reputation: No one will buy from a seller with a bad reputation. Reputation is everything online. A person has to trust someone they cannot see to provide a product they also cannot see. Never underestimate the power of being a respectable and honest seller. People will forgive a chipped product if fully disclosed but they are not as likely to forgive a chip that came as a surprise.

Know What’s Hot: Remember when leg warmers were all the rage? You find yourself at a secondhand store where you can get a box full of leg warmers for a dollar. Nostalgia takes over and you purchase the box thinking others will surely want to be reminded of the leg warmer days. Yet after days of the leg warmers being up for auction you have not one bid to show for it. What went wrong? Leg warmers are not a hot item anymore. Once a product’s day in the sun is over, it’s over. You look in your attic and find something that just sold on Ebay a month ago for ten times what it’s worth. Does that mean your item will sell for the same? Maybe. Maybe not. You must be aware of the trends and how flooded the market is for a particular item to have the greatest success.
