Personally, as long as a hotel is not infested with roaches or bed bugs and is clean then I don’t have a problem staying in it. And with the recent news that bed bugs have been found in even the most luxurious 5-star properties it kind of makes you wonder what you’re doling out the extra cash for these days. If your risk for getting bit by bugs is the same in a room that cost $500 per night versus one that costs $50 per night, sign me up for the latter.
And speaking of $50 hotel rooms, budget properties across the country are now proving that they are a good value in more ways than one.
Recently, the Red Roof Inn chain announced it plans to upgrade its properties. The lodging’s “Next Generation Redesign” will include bathrooms with granite countertops, vessel sinks and oversized walk-in showers. Other upgrades include flat-screen TVs with remote jack packs to let guests hook up CD and MP-3 players, cameras and laptops. The new guest rooms will also feature video games and modernized, spacious work areas with ergonomic chairs.
You can experience Red Roof’s new rooms by the end of the year at the motel’s location in Locust Grove, Georgia. The company says at least another dozen “Next Generation” properties will follow in the following months. Meanwhile, most existing Red Roofs have also received upgrades with new linens, renovated lobbies, and granite-countertop bathrooms. Also, Wi-Fi is offered, at a price at most of Red Roof’s 350 locations nationwide.
By the way, according to the company, the average rate travelers will pay for a room at a Red Roof property is just $58.
The leader in budget accommodations—-Motel 6 is also helping travelers dealing with tight budgets. The lodging just announced that it has installed wireless, high speed Internet access in more than 600 Motel 6 and Studio 6 properties nationwide. And while Wi-Fi is not free to guests it is priced lower than many properties–just $2.99 per 24-hour period.
