After several months of delays and threats of cancellation Eddie Murphy and fiancée Tracey Edmonds decided to just do it. The couple reportedly wed on New Year’s Day on a private island in French Polynesia.
According to PEOPLE Magazine, the lavish affair was attended by a very small group (less than 30) of family and friends. However, what the wedding lacked in numbers it made up for in elegance.
Oprah’s pal, renowned event coordinator Colin Cowie, reportedly created a gazebo on the beach made out of 6,000 shells for the couple’s sunset oceanside ceremony. Cowie also flew in a four-layered wedding cake from Los Angeles, which was decorated with handmade sugar cymbidium and dendrobium orchids.
According to PEOPLE, Edmonds walked barefoot down the aisle to Gladys Knight’s “Makings of You” in a custom-designed form-fitting dress. Meanwhile, Murphy wore a cream suit and vest with an off-white handkerchief.
The couple had previously vowed to get hitched by the end of 2007, but in the end decided to get 2008 of to a great start by saving the vow exchange for the first day of the New Year.
MARIE OSMOND EMBRACES THE SINGLE LIFE
While Murphy and Edmonds were vowing to spend the rest of their lives as man and wife Marie Osmond says she spent the first day of the New Year contemplating her single status… and embracing it.
“I have great kids. I love my kids, you know that, and it’s OK,” Osmond recently told TV’s Extra. “It’s OK to be alone, and it’s OK to be busy. It’s a choice you make to be positive with what comes at you in life.”
The 48-year-old “Dancing with the Stars” fan favorite has eight children… and endured a rough year.
You’ll recall the patriarch of the Osmond clan, George Osmond, died at the age of 90 in November shortly after the news went public that her teenage son had checked into rehab. That followed Osmond’s split with her husband of 20 years Brian Blosil. Oh, and then there was that whole fainting incident on live national TV.
Osmond says she is looking forward to making 2008 a better year… perhaps with a new talk show or a stint on Broadway.
