Can you believe it? We are up to the letter O in my Education A to Z blog series? I want to focus on an important aspect of education, organization. Yes, teachers need to be organized to keep her classroom running smoothly and to start the year off in a great fashion. I don’t want to focus on keeping teacher’s organized, instead I want to focus on how parents can get their child organized and keep them organized throughout the school year.
1. Purchase all school supplies that may be on your child’s list for necessary items. Even if you think they seem ridiculous or unnecessary, the teacher needs them for a reason, so please buy them. It is important for your children to come to school prepared, and that means with all supplies that are deemed necessary by the school and the teacher.
2. If you have your child’s class schedule, you can help your child get organized by labeling folders before the first day of school begins. Assist your child in labeling his name, and each class for each particular folder. If your child has special needs and also passes from teacher to teacher, it is also a good idea to put the time the class is and which room number. You, of course, can do this for children who aren’t special needs, it is just an easy way for the child to see what class is coming up, where it is and who the teacher is. Another great idea is to tape a copy of the child’s schedule inside each folder, this way he has access to his schedule in every folder.
3. Another great tip from teachers, at least where I was teaching, is to help your child get his locker organized before school begins. If you know your child’s locker number, feel free to go to the school before and get organized. A great idea is to purchase some plastic dividers that you can label for each class and place in your child’s locker. This way, your child can put a folder in the proper divider and it keeps his locker nice and neat. You should also add a divider that is labeled “homework”, your child can then place any homework from any class in that homework spot and will know that he needs to take that specific folder home for the evening.
These are just a few tips from teachers. Do you have any great suggestions for getting kids organized and keeping them organized?
