Eighteen Weeks

As I enter my eighteenth week of pregnancy, there are a lot of things on my mind as well as events that are getting closer and closer (more quickly than I anticipated).

I remember the eighteenth week of my first pregnancy very well because my husband and I used our spring break to travel back to our home town for a little vacation. That was the week that I chopped off my long curly locks. I also bought my first pair of maternity jeans at gap maternity during my eighteenth week (we did not have a gap maternity in our desert home). Spring break also included Saint Patrick’s Day, so at eighteen weeks I was in my first Saint Patrick’s Day Parade.

Here I am eighteen weeks again and it is not spring break, it is the height of summer in the midwest! While I am looking forward to the cooler fall weather, there are so many exciting things happening this week and summer that I am not going to wish the heat and humidity away.

First, I am starting to show ever so slightly (depending on what I’m wearing). I still have not broken out the maternity jeans yet (it is far to hot) or any other maternity clothing. My belly band has come in handy and I am in no rush to pack up my pre-pregnancy pants.

Second, we have our third prenatal appointment this week. I really enjoy meeting with my midwife and making sure everything is still on track. Our midwife is also going to accompany us to our ultrasound where we will find out if we are having a boy or a girl (super excited!)

Third, my husband’s birthday is this week which means I have another excuse to make another birthday cake (one of my particular favorites: German Chocolate).

Finally, my sister is coming back “home” this week for a little visit at which time the baby shower I have been planning will take place. I have not seen my sister (she is also my best friend) in an entire year!

Week eighteen of pregnancy is going to be great with many memories to be made and shared!
