1. High Fructose Corn Syrup: HFCS is 55% fructose and 45% glucose. The primary ingredient is corn syrup which is mainly glucose. It was discovered how to convert corn glucose into fructose but the result was a very sweet high percentage of fructose. So the fructose made from corn glucose is mixed with glucose until the 55/45 blend is achieved.
Regular consumption of high fructose corn syrup is linked to an increased risk of heart disease insulin resistance and diabetes. It also creates fat around the belly and liver which is difficult to burn off.
You can find high fructose corn syrup in soda, juices, bread, cookies, cakes, crackers, and more. It finds its way into a variety of foods so watch your labels.
2. Artificial Sweeteners: The FDA stated that sucralose is produced from sugar. Which is the reason ads claim it is “natural”. Natural is not always a positive term, think of arsenic. It is true that surcalose is produced from sucrose (natural sugar) except three chlorine atoms have taken the place of three hydroxyl groups in the molecule. This makes sucralose a characteristic of a chlorocarbon. Pesticides are chlorocarbons. In fact, surcalose was discovered in 1976 by British scientists who were seeking a new pesticide formulation.
Sucralose is claimed to be carcinogenic.
Aspartame does not get a free pass either. Aspartame is claimed to be linked to brain tumors, diabetes, fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s disease, and epilepsy.
3. Partially Hydrogenated Oils: When hydrogen is forced into oil at a high pressure the result is hydrogenated oil. The more hydrogenated the oil the more solid it becomes like Crisco or margarine. Hydrogenated oils have a higher melting point and are more stable so it also acts as a preservative. The production of hydrogenated oil changes the chemical structure of the oil. In the 90s, it was found that this change of chemical structure could have adverse reactions on health. During the process of converting fats and oils into a hydrogenated form, the healthy fat is converts into trans-fat. Trans-fat is very unhealthy for the body. Margarine is almost half trans-fat.
Partially hydrogenated oils may be linked to extreme fatigue; frequent headaches, joint pain, and muscle aches; brain fog or trouble focusing; painful periods, severe PMS and premenopausal symptoms, weight gain, and blue moods, anxiety or irritability.
