I discovered something new and very fulfilling to do while I am walking on my treadmill. I pray. Even if prayer isn’t your thing, you might find meditation or just thinking to be great ways to spend time walking on your treadmill.
Here’s why I like to pray while walking on my treadmill. I find that when I am walking my mind is less cluttered. I’m not keeping busy with a million activities. I’m just walking and so that requires my mind to settle somewhere. When I walk and pray, I think of all kinds of situations that are weighing heavily upon my heart and I can pour them out.
This morning was almost like an emotional cleansing for me. We are dealing with a difficult family situation, a marriage breaking up. It is hitting us very close to home because my family member happened to marry one of my husband’s family members. There are children involved as well. It has been a rollercoaster ride and this weekend we spent what was probably our very last time together as an entire family. With the impending separation there will be changes that I don’t feel ready to face. So this morning I was thinking about it.
As I walked, I prayed. I let out all of my feelings about the situation. Yes, there were even some tears. I found the harder I walked, the more the feelings came out and in the end when I finally made a complete stop I felt better. The rest of the day I will be so busy I won’t have a lot of time to think about things and so it could end up building inside and not having a way to be released. With taking the time to pray while I walk I was able to let go of so much.
Like I said, you might not really be into prayer. But I bet you have a ton of things weighing on your mind. This is a great time to let it out. Just talking to the air might even prove to be helpful. In fact, if there is no one else in the house, then scream it out. While you are getting fit physically, you just might find yourself getting fit emotionally.
