One of the great things that happens on a personal level when we embark on operating our own home business is that we move away from the pack–we start to live a more individualized life and stand out on our own. This can be scary, of course, and feel incredibly foreign if we are used to working a traditional job and being “ordinary.” But, I do think we can celebrate this unique path and learn how to enjoy being an individual doing things our way!
There are going to be those who think your independence and home business endeavors are fabulous, and there are going to be those who are either threatened or who have had unpleasant experiences and feel as though they are duty-bound to share those with you. They may or may not be intentionally trying to bring you down–but they are not encouraging of your individual path. I think we have to be pretty thick-skinned to embark on a home business and be able to march on regardless of the detractors. There will be people all along the way who want to tell us horror-stories or point out that we don’t have “security,” “benefits,” etc.
Instead of letting yourself feel self-conscious about being out here on your own, living your work life as an individual, celebrate it! Enjoy the fact that you have taken the risk, are learning new things, and developing skills for handling things on your own. Instead of letting yourself feel as though you are “out of the club” because you are not marching off to the office every morning at 8:00 am, find those joys and pleasures that are uniquely yours BECAUSE of your home business experiences. I really do think that by reminding yourself of the positives and focusing on the joys and pleasures and shifting your attitude–you can combat those nay-sayers and make the most of your business experiences.
