In my previous article I began discussing some tips and measures that women can take to help enhance their relationship with their husbands. There are simple things that partners can do to create a deeper and closer bond with one another.
The first tip that I shared was to speak out. Communication is a very important part of a healthy relationship. By speaking up directly you can ensure that your husband understands your needs and concerns. This can help eliminate confusion and frustration. Speaking up as soon as you feel the need may also elevate hard feelings and arguments that can stem from withholding your feelings or waiting for your mate to “pick up” on them.
My second tip deals with giving your mate a break. We have all heard of the phrase “guys’ night out”. Every now and then, men need them. I do not believe it is necessary to encourage your husband to go out without you every weekend or even once month. However letting him have his space periodically can be beneficial to both of you.
Men struggle more with the feeling of losing “freedom” when they marry. Although many men are happily married and do not feel that way, the stereotype of the old ball and chain is typically somewhere in the backs of their minds.
When he mentions a card game or a hunting trip with the guys try giving a positive response about the experience. He will likely notice your lack of negatively about his adventure and appreciate it. Spending time with the guys may even seem less appealing when he is given the full go ahead from you. You can also benefit from a night for yourself. Of course you should use your own personal judgment on whether or not these guys’ nights are too often or coming between the two of you.
