Having a healthy relationship takes work. No relationship among two people is without conflict. While some mates handle their differences better than others, relationship enrichment can be positive for all couples.
Enriching your marriage and strengthening your bond with your mate does not necessarily take a complete make-over. If you consider yourself to be in a fairly good and healthy relationship, then there are simple measures that you can take to enhance the connection that you and your partner share.
If you feel that your relationship is struggling and in need of much work, the tips in my next few articles may help but may not solve all of your problems. You should likely seek additional relationship enrichment strategies.
The tips that I will offer in this and future articles can be helpful to both male and female partners. However, for my purposes, I will be directing the enrichment from a woman’s perspective in strengthening her bond with her husband.
The first tip that I have to offer is to speak up. In many cases women feel that they should not have to come out and directly tell their husbands every single detail. In their eyes, they wish that he could pick up on her needs and desires without being guided to do so. However this is typically not the way that things happen.
Men are not mind readers and often not cued into details. Therefore it is important to speak out about your needs, desires, hopes, dreams, and concerns. Be direct about the communication. Come out and say exactly what it is that is on your mind. Trying to give implications may only lead to more confusion and let downs for both you and your husband.
While being honest and direct is very important, it is also important to be conscious about your method of communicating. Remember that you are speaking out for the purpose of relaying information. The conversation should not be an argument, a criticism, or a “nag”. It is important to speak up before the topic turns to one of the three listed above.
