Here is a contest that genealogists are going to love! This is especially true for genealogists who love the television show “Who Do You Think You Are?”. Ancestry.com is having a contest that will result in a lucky winner getting to be the star in their own video that reveals their journey of family discovery.
The “Who Do You Think You Are?” television program is incredibly popular. It is now on it’s third season. If you have watched the show, then you are probably aware that it is something that Ancestry.com is connected with. Considering that Ancestry.com is one of the most popular genealogy websites out there, this seems like a wise choice of partnership.
There are two things that make the television show so exciting. One is that it includes celebrities. It is always interesting to watch something that features a celebrity that you happen to like. The actors, actresses, musicians, and sports figures who appear on “Who Do You Think You Are?” do not know ahead of time what, exactly, has been discovered in their family tree. Their responses to that information is done live, which makes the show quite dramatic.
The other thing that makes the television show so compelling to genealogists is that it makes people think about what they might learn about their own family tree, if they were selected to be on the show. Ancestry.com has a contest that will not get you onto the television show, but that does offer a prize that is similar to what you might experience if you were one of the celebrities featured in an episode.
Enter the Ancestry.com “Star of Your Family Story” Contest. You must be a permanent, legal, resident of the United States in order to enter the contest. You must also be at least 18 years old. In order to enter, you must submit a video before May 31, 2012. This contest can only be entered through the Ancestry.com Facebook page, (which means that you must have a Facebook account in order to enter).
First, fill out the registration form. Next, upload a video that you have created that answers a specific question. My best guess is that the question will be given to you after you fill out the entry form. Your video must not exceed two minutes in length. Entries will be judged on the creativity of the video, the breadth of family tree, and the diversity of family background.
There will be one First Prize Winner. That person will receive a package that contains an Ancestry World Deluxe Subscription, a DNA kit, and a membership to Fold3. There will also be one Grand Prize Winner. That lucky person will receive a 5 to 10 minute video about themselves that is similar to the ones that appear on the “Who Do You Think You Are?” television show.
