Now that we know which teams will be facing each other in the Super Bowl, it’s a little easier to decorate. Since both teams have blue in their uniforms and logos, you might want to go with blue to keep it simple. However, the Colts blue is more of a royal blue, while the Bears blue is a navy.
Royal blue and white on one side of the room and navy with orange on the other is a good scheme, if you want to decorate in a neutral fashion. If you’re not sure which of your guests are cheering for each team, this may be your best solution. If you prefer one team over the other, use that teams colors.
A simple decorating plan starts much like a birthday party. Grab some streamers and balloons in your favorite team’s colors. A navy tablecloth with orange tableware and streamers, complete with a mixture of blue and orange balloons will work great. Pick up some inexpensive plastic (or even disposable) serving dishes and platters in team colors.
Both teams have fairly simple logos to recreate (shown). Print off a larger image of the logo, cut it out, and use it for a pattern to cut from a round cake. You can also print off smaller images of the logos, make small slits top and bottom, and slide a toothpick through the slits. Pop toothpicks into cheese cubes or other appetizers for a spirited “go team” look.
Another great tip is to organize food and beverages into separate stations. Place cups, ice, beverages, and cocktail napkins on one surface away from food. This way, guests won’t have to wait in the food line if they aren’t filling a plate. They can just fill or refill their drinks as needed.
It’s good to separate foods as well. If you’re serving chips and dips and other munchies, it makes sense to put these off to the side and keep the heavier foods together. If someone just wants a handful of chips, he or she can grab them without waiting for everyone else to fill plates. Be sure to have plenty of napkins in various places within easy reach as well.
Oh, don’t forget to put clean trashcans in various places so guests can dispose of plates and things easily when finished eating. You don’t want to miss a great play because you’re cleaning up, and let’s face it, you really don’t want to miss all those great commercials either!
