One of the best pieces of advice for throwing a great party is to make sure you’re organized. Sure, that can cover a lot of territory, but it’s really all just basic stuff.
Try these tips:
Check the Weather and Be Ready for it
If it’s wet or muddy outside, you’ll need to be prepared to store shoes and boots when people take them off as they enter. Shallow boxes or bins beside the door will help keep footwear organized, off your carpets, and out of the walkway. You may need something larger than you’re your typical welcome mat too. You’ll also need someplace to hang damp jackets and coats.
Have Extra Everything on Hand
It’s always better to be prepared. You don’t want to have to run out to the store while you have company. If you don’t want to spend extra money on expensive party ware that you may not need, at least pick up an extra package of plain paper plates, napkins, cups, or whatever else, so you’ll have back-ups if needed. These can be used any time, so it won’t seem like such a waste. Also, have back up munchies. Even if that just means microwave popcorn that you can pop as needed to replace chips or pretzels, or iced tea mix that you can stir up if needed. And, don’t forget ice!
Prepare Food and Serving Areas Ahead of Time
Whip up as many dishes as you can in advance. For one thing, some foods taste better after they sit or chill for several hours or even overnight. Also, it will limit the amount of time spent on preparations after guests arrive, so you’ll have more time for fun. Arrange your serving surface in advance too. Have an idea in mind of where things should be placed when you begin serving. Don’t forget to leave room for items guests may bring.
