Europe for Less

romeIf your bucket list includes a trip to Europe, now is the time to make your dream a reality.  A number of reputable European hotels are offering deep discounts just in time for the busy summer travel season.  According to popular travel aggregate sites, such as Expedia and Hotwire, several five-star properties are slashing prices to entice visitors to spend part of the summer across the Pond.  Lodgings in some European cities are going for less than $100 per night.

Among the most amazing deals are properties in Berlin, a city that has added more than 3,000 new hotel rooms in the last year.  Hotwire is showing that you can score a five-star room in the Checkpoint Charlie area for as low as $94 per night.  Meanwhile, luxury hotels in Budapest are going for just $66 per night.  Even tourist-friendly Prague and Vienna are offering rooms for $72 and $94 per night respectively.

If your heart is set on exploring London this summer, expect to pay a bit more for lodging, but not much.  It’s been a year since the Summer Games in London and the city is looking to fill rooms in the new properties that were built near the Olympic venues.  To encourage travelers to spend their vacation dollars, many hotels in the Chelsea and Knightsbridge neighborhoods have reduced nightly prices by 20 percent.  That means you can stay at an upscale London property for less than $200.

The money you save on hotel rooms can be used to offset the cost of your flight to Europe.  Timing is key if you are pinching pennies.  Budget-conscious travelers should wait until August to get the best summer airfare to Europe.  By waiting until the end of the season you can save at least 20 percent on flights.  Another way to save is to skip the nonstop flight and go with an itinerary that includes a connection.  Doing so will help you save as much as 30 percent off a non-refundable ticket.
