Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body; it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity. – John F. Kennedy
It takes a lot of courage to get into shape. I am Bob Harper, I’m your trainer and I’m going to keep my eye on you – so begins the Push TV DVD Session 1 for the first month trial that you can begin when you sign up at PushTV. So what is this Push TV?
Let’s see if I can answer this for you, I am trying out Push TV for a month to get a feel for the workout plan. The sessions begin with about 3 minutes of warm up. The idea of the warm up is to get the body warmed up and the muscles ready to do their workout.
The PUSH.tv program provides you with one customized DVD per month. For weeks 1 and 2, they want you use Session 1 on the DVD 3 times that week and add to it about 100 minutes of cardio work (walking, running, cycling and more). For weeks 3 and 4, you will do Session 2 3 times per week and an additional 100 minutes of cardio per week.
Remember, your cardio workout is any form of aerobic activity that gets your heart rate up – if you mow the lawn for an hour – you are getting in about 60 minutes of cardio right there. The provided DVD also provides you with a cardio session that you can perform if you do not want to do any of the following or enjoy the workout.
The trainer walks you through each exercise verbally and through physical demonstration. Each exercise is named off and an explanation is given for the muscles you are working and helping out. They also provide you with an elastic band – this is a resistance band and it will be useful for some of the workouts they put you through. It’s worth mentioning that the PUSH.tv DVD is not asking you to use much in the way of equipment other than you, your body and a mat that you lay down on the floor.
Since the workouts are done in your own living room, you do not necessarily need the mat – but if you have a good yoga mat that can work too. The trainer on the first disc: Bob Harper has a good energy, but he doesn’t sound syrupy chirpy with his cheerfulness. He is calm, he is clear, but he’s very positive and he gives you options to lower the intensity.
The first workout in session one offers you a good core workout and I definitely felt it, but at no point are you doing so many reps that you are either bored or exhausted with the program. He moves from exercise to exercise and building up the muscle fatigue in various areas, but never concentrating on one so long that you can’t possibly do the next exercise he requests of you.
The Personalized Touch
PUSH.tv combines the workout DVD with the personalized touches that people enjoy from a downloadable trainer. The idea is that you keep your profile updated at PUSH.tv along with a record of your workouts and each month you will receive a new DVD filled with personalized workouts to help you achieve your workout goals. This is a great home workout for moms and everyone else that prefers to work out at home, but get tired of doing the same boring routine over and over.
You won’t do a routine for longer than 2 weeks, so that’s 6 sessions – that’s about right for most of us and if you follow the prescription they give you – you will maximize your fitness and toning. This is a great program for people looking to shape and firm as well as trim inches.
