Every Workout Has A Purpose

Every single workout you do, whether it’s the hundredth time you’ve gone for your walk or the first time, has a purpose. You have to be sure to give every work out you perform a purpose whether you imagine it’s there or not.

Life Has Meaning

If you’re thinking that a workout means just that – some physical exercise that stresses your muscles, burns fat and more. This is a valid point of view. But that’s not all there is to a workout. The simple truth is that life has meaning and so does every single workout that you perform. If you invest in that experience, invest yourself into each workout and plan it out, you give a great deal more meaning to what you are doing.

When your workout has meaning, it’s more effective. For many years, when I would go in to do my workout at the gym office or the gym or even here at home, I’d set myself up on the treadmill, the bike or other cardio machine and focus on whatever I was working on. In fact, this time was critical to my creative endeavors.

I could climb onto the stair climber and use that time as I climbed the Empire State Building’s worth of stairs puzzling through a problem that I may have encountered in my latest story. When I was in school, I’d use that time to review key facts in whatever I was studying. As I got older and had my child, I used this time to think out my day, to create me time and to reach for the stars.

Effective Session

An effective session is one where you reach a little further, push a little harder and go a little longer. I described using the stair climber as climbing the Empire State Building. I’ve used the bike to travel through the countryside of France and I’ve gotten on the treadmill and headed myself off on a stroll on the beach.

Workouts need to have meaning. They need to have a meaning that’s personal to us. We need that meaning so we can be effective in our workout and we can strive to reach for our best. Do you give your workouts meaning? How do you plan your sessions to make them more effective for you personally?
