In a little less than a month, I will be attending the first family reunion that I have attended in a long time. It is definitely the first one that I will attend with my two boys. I am excited about making the trip to Connecticut to see my mother – in – law’s family. That is the group of people who are reuniting.
My mother – in – law’s maiden name is Blake, so it is the Blake family reunion. Interestingly enough, the two youngest attendees at this reunion have the family name incorporated into their names. My husband’s second cousin recently had a daughter, and her middle name is Blake. My youngest son, who is now twelve weeks old, is named Blake.
Since I have not been to a family reunion for a long time, I am not sure what to expect. I have met some of my mother – in – law’s brothers and sisters and they are very nice. I look forward to seeing them again, and to meeting others that I have never met before. There will be other little boys for Dylan to play with, and I am excited to meet the other “new baby” of the bunch.
I’m grateful that one of my husband’s second cousins has organized this family reunion. It was probably quite a bit of work. One thing that she did that I think is a great idea for anyone who is planning a family reunion is that she created a Facebook group for all of the people who were invited to the reunion. We can introduce ourselves to each other and get up to the minute information about the event. She can see at a glance who is attending and who is not. The group was started before the date and location were finalized, so that a discussion about those items could take place. It seems like organizing the event through Facebook was a great thing to do.
