It’s amazing the toll that pregnancy can take on our bodies. Before I had my son I could eat anything I wanted and it never showed. I could eat ice cream all day every day if I wanted and no one would know the difference. After my son was born reality set in. My metabolism just wasn’t what it used to be, my body would never be the same again. I didn’t have a lot of trouble with the initial baby weight coming off, but no matter what I did my body just didn’t look the same anymore. Pregnancy had taken its toll.
This is something that I think many mothers face after their children are born. It’s hard to face the fact that our bodies will never be what they once were. Exercise and eating right help, but as a single mom who has time to exercise anymore? At the end of the day there are so many other things to get done that exercising tends to get put on the back burner.
Making exercising a priority has always been a hard one for me, but it has been on my mind a lot lately. When I was in high school I used to go running to clear my head. Doing that with a three year old can be a bit of a challenge, but I have found that even just a walk around the
neighborhood can give me the energy I need to get through the day. It gives me one on one time with my son and we both get the exercise that we need. When I was little I used to go on walks with my grandmother. She would always point out the different kinds of flowers and trees and used our walks as little teaching opportunities. These are some of my fondest memories of my grandmother.
Teaching your children about staying healthy is important and it is a great way to have some bonding time as a family. I find that I am healthier and happier when I make exercising a priority in our busy lives and taking off that little extra baby weight certainly helps too!
