When?
Being a single parent and finding time for just the basics is challenging in itself, but fitting in exercise to boot may seem virtually hopeless, right? Not really. You want to be physically fit for many reasons, such as health, being there for your children, and looking and feeling good about yourself. The question is how do you find the time? Fitting in exercise when you are a single parent is actually one of the easiest things that you will encounter as a single parent.
Here’s How
You spend time with your children anyway everyday so why not incorporate this time in fitting in your exercise. They say that obesity in kids is on the rise. What a perfect way to avoid that in your children and in yourself by exercising with your kids every day or at least on most days. You will be spending time with them and at the same time getting your own exercise in. I guarantee that the exercise program that you do with them will be a lot less monotonous then the exercise program you have in mind for yourself. It will not be your typical crunches and squats that you would normally do yet will benefit not only you, but also your children in many healthy ways.
Just Have Fun
Some great ways to spend time while exercising with your children might include rollerblading, ice-skating, bicycling, football, basketball, soccer, tennis, swimming, and so on. It does not really matter what kind of exercise that you are doing as long as you are having fun, spending time together and keeping on the move. If you really prefer the structure of regular exercise why not enroll in a program, such as the YMCA. You can purchase a family membership and there are so many great opportunities there. Most facilities have babysitting on site if the children are too young to go to a class themselves and you want to attend an adult class. Finding time to exercise does not have to be difficult. Being a single parent, like always, you just need to be creative.
