Exploring Summer Movies

My kids and I are anxious for the “Prince Caspian” movie release on May 16th. This past week we’ve been reading the book together. One of the boys was so into the book that he snuck it to bed with him the last two nights. The kids have also been looking online to find news about the movie and trailers that we can watch. Reading the book and searching for trailers is a fun way to build up our excitement, but it also will make the movie mean more.

In the old days (when the dinosaurs ruled the earth – as my children like to tease me) there wasn’t so much buildup to movie releases. We saw an occasional preview on TV or at the movies. It’s different these days. Now movies have official websites. You can download trailers, and wallpaper for your computer screen. Some movies have free games to play, interactive maps to explore, free e-cards to send, or quizzes to take. Sometimes you can read all about the filming and production of the movie, and interviews with the actors and directors. And often there are sneak peeks of the movie scenes.

There are a few other movies coming out this summer that I’m sure we will see. In preparation for “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” we watched the original “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” movie. I think seeing some of the first Indiana Jones movie will get the kids psyched for this new one. As for “The Clone Wars” we’ve already seen all the Star Wars as a family.

And of course there’s the “Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D” based on the Jules Verne classic. I’ll see about getting the book for us to read before the movie comes out July 11th.

What movies are you going to see this summer?
