Extreme Punishments

Note to angry parents: Shaving off your kid’s hair to punish her for shoplifting is NOT a good idea.

Just ask Ajpacaja-Ajiataz.

The Florida dad claims he lost it when he heard that his tween daughter stole jewelry from the local Wal-Mart, and then used a Game Boy without permission, so he did what any angry parent would do… first he hit her with a belt and then he shaved off all her hair.

For the record, the 34-year-old father denies using a belt on his 11-year-old daughter, though he did admit that he cut off her locks in a case of extreme punishment.

Ajpacaja-Ajiataz has since been arrested on charges of mental and physical child abuse.

Interestingly, many people in Ajpacaja-Ajiataz’s Florida community have gone public in an effort to stick up with the enraged dad.

One resident went so far as to say that police overreacted to the incident. The anonymous citizen told local news reporters:

“I don’t think that shaving her head was child abuse at all. After all a spanking didn’t seem to have an effect. This was he second offense. Shaving her head gave her an embarrassing everyday reminder of what she had done wrong. Causing her to have to explain to her friends that Dad shaved my head because I got caught stealing. A strange punishment Yes, But I think it worked, Other than him getting arrested for it. He shouldn’t have been arrested.”

Obviously, this individual has never been forced into a chair and had every strand of his/her hair removed from his/her head.

Then again, maybe the commenter is bald and doesn’t see anything wrong with living a hair-free life.

I’m pretty sure Ajpacaja-Ajiataz’s young daughter would disagree.

After all, the girl is just that… a girl. An impressionable young girl who used to have hair. Hair that enhanced her innate femininity. Hair that she probably spent hours on end washing, drying and styling each day. Hair that has been ripped from her, thus paving the way for her junior high classmates to use her baldness as the butt of their pubescent jokes.

I’m not saying that shoplifting is a minor offense. The girl should have been punished for her actions. However, the drastic measures the dad used, as forms of discipline were a bit much in my opinion.

What ever happened to month long groundings or revoking privileges?
