Fall Activities with Baby

I’m not very big into Halloween. I don’t usually dress up (although my kids think I should) and I only do what is necessary to make my kids’ halloween dreams come true. The great thing, for someone like me, about having a baby at Halloween is that they are not begging for candy, or going trick or treating, and a costume is just a bonus. Not really necessary.

Yet, there are many people unlike me who love Halloween. They dress their babies up in cute costumes, and take them trick or treating to show off the costumes. Maybe to get a little candy for themselves? And, that’s OK too. Everyone is different, and of course, neither is right or wrong. But, have you considered some other Halloween or fall activities you can do with your baby? Try these ideas:

Visit a pumpkin patch. One of my favorite memories with my daughter is taking her to a pumpkin patch and posing her with the pumpkins.

Go on a hayride. Baby will love looking around and his surroundings, and if you find a farm that does hayrides, he will love the animals too!

Let your baby try pumpkin for the first time. If you baby is eating solid foods, consider pumpkin as a new food to try.

Visit a library story time centered around Halloween. Usually library story times have themes each week. Your baby will love going to hear fun Halloween stories at the library!

Let your babe hand out candy to the big kids. If you want to dress your baby up, but don’t want to take him out, consider staying in and handing out Halloween in your neighborhood.

Make a craft that is Halloween themed with babies thumb prints or hand prints.

Let your baby play in the fall leaves. Since babies love all things crinkly, let her go play in the leaves for a while. She will love the sights and sounds of fall all around her.

Incorporate baby into YOUR costume. I love this idea of the Mommy as the spider web, with baby as the spider. Get creative, and make baby part of the fun.

Whatever your level of love for Halloween is, make it fun for baby. Part of childhood is making memories, and sometimes babies need a little help!
