Isn’t it fun to decorate for the fall and upcoming holidays? I’ve done a little bit with a basket of mini pumpkins, a friendly scarecrow and some candles, but I am itching to do more. Some of my favorite decorating involves the use of natural materials. I covered some ideas for fall and holiday decorating with nature in an earlier post. Did you like that log idea? Now I’ll share some more suggestions for your home.
With a heavy rain yesterday, I know that there are plenty of fallen twigs and small branches in my yard. One idea is to gather them up and place them on a flat surface, such as a mantle, a sideboard or a table and add some earth-toned Christmas balls (ornaments). You can also add some white lights to the mixture for a more festive holiday look. This creation can also be adapted as a wall decoration. Just bundle the sticks tightly with some natural-colored twine or sturdy raffia, and hook or glue the ornaments on to the bundle. Then hang on the wall or above a door frame.
Do you like the look of those custom worry or decorating stones? Simply gather a few pebbles or rive rocks from your own yard or a nearby beach. Wash them off and leave them as is or polish them in a rock tumbler (beach pebbles are usually already polished). Take a thin line permanent marker and print your favorite sayings on the stones. Then gather them into a shallow container or pile them into a glass vase (print on both sides of the stones for better visibility in a vase). Try a dark blue marker on white stones for a winter theme, or black or dark brown on brown or red stones (river rocks) for a fall or year-round theme. You can also use a special silver or white pen for dark stones. Be on the look out for heart-shaped stones. They are more common than you might think!
