Whether you’re gearing up for Thanksgiving already or you simply want to decorate your table for the fall, this is the season to add festive flair at very little expense.
Of course, there’s always the paper bag turkey. But if you want to move beyond that even a tiny bit, then it’s quite simple. Fall is a lovely season, and it’s easy to find centerpieces that inspire.
First, think food. Fall food is beautiful. Squashes, apples, and even lovely and durable pears like the Bosc pear make good table decorations. Yes, you can eat them each week and add more to a lovely basket or fall-colored piece of pottery in the middle. You can also spread them out in the center of the table, adding some green vines for contrast.
If you like candles at your dinner table, dig out small pumpkins and place candles in the middle. Put them into the pumpkins in a candleholder so that they stay upright. Or add candles in wrought iron lanterns and surround them with miniature gourds. Alternatively, use a hollow real or artificial pumpkin to hold a pretty display of fall flowers.
Place bare, twisted branches that have architectural interest into a vase. Pair them with orange lantern flowers or bouquets of fall leaves. Many nuts and gourds are very pretty, especially when they are arranged in a clear vase and placed into the vase with fall leaves as well. Use the vase to hold your fall branches.
White gourds, brown acorns, and brown and black branches are reminiscent of Halloween, but they’re also an elegant addition to a fall table. Pair these with candles and lanterns to add a glow to the table.
Sheaves of wheat are a little hard to come by around these parts, but the greens and browns of fall grasses are lovely when they’re all bundled up with a piece of ribbon.
