“Too wild.” “Too expensive.” “Too revealing.” Those are the phrases I typically utter as I page through fashion magazines. However, the other day I was standing in the checkout line at the supermarket and ran across a picture of what looked like the very same pair of jeans I had in my closet… more than a decade ago.
Paper-bag waist pants. Do you remember them? They were all the rage when I was in high school. I owned about four pairs of those pants. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing laid out in the magazine. Could the cinch-waist jeans really be coming back in style? Apparently, the answer is yes. What’s more, the high-waist style is being called a “stylish silhouette” this fall. A way to look slim without having to go on a diet.
If you have a pair (and they still fit you) don’t hesitate to put them on. Once you do, according to fashion experts, you’ll be sporty one of fall’s hottest trends. If you don’t own a pair, I noticed that Old Navy is currently selling a slew of high-waist wide-leg trouser jeans for under $35. To really show off your waist in these hip pants, I would suggest tucking your shirt into the pants and throwing on a cropped jacket. Then, put on a pair of stacked heels to elongate your legs and presto–you’ve got an up-to-the-minute, flattering silhouette.
According to fashion experts, another way to achieve a slim figure this fall is to pull out another blast from the past—metallic. As in metallic jackets (circa 1980). The people who dictate what’s hot for fall insist that metallic jackets are “sloppy-proof” and look polished no matter what it is paired with it. What’s more, when you pair the shiny jacket with leggings you appear slimmer and more sophisticated than if you were wearing sweats or cargo pants.
Finally, fashion experts say it’s time to say bye-bye to your baby doll dresses that hide your womanly curves. That’s right; to be hip and fashionable this fall you need to stock up on sexy sheath dresses. This season it’s all about the hourglass shape of a woman’s body and sheath-style dresses display that.
Fortunately, I have still have a few of these dresses in my closet (I didn’t know they went out of style). I must say, they are sleek and simple and offer a very forgiving silhouette. For example, if you’re curvy, they slim you down, and if you have a boyish figure, they give you curves.
Which of these items do you have in your closet? Are they styles you would be willing to wear this fall?
