It is that time of year again. General Conference is taking place September 30, 2006 and October 1, 2006. This is a wonderful time to listen to the message of the prophet. It is also a great time to take account of what you have accomplished during the year. It is time to make preparations for your family to watch or listen to conference.
Conference is available as a public service through many cable companies throughout the country. You may want to call your local cable company to see if they offer this service. If you live in Utah you can watch General Conference on KBYU-TV and on the KSL station. If you have satellite TV you can view General Conference on the BYU-TV station. Your local ward building will also be showing each broadcast of conference. You also have the option of streaming the conference over the Internet. This is difficult, because there is a limited amount of broadband available. If you have access through another method, please don’t stream it, so that someone else can.
In the fall the Relief Society has a special session of conference. This is taking place September 23, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. MDT. Sisters are encouraged to attend the ward building to view this session of conference. You should also encourage your husbands and sons to attend the Priesthood session of conference, which takes place on September 30, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. MDT.
It is important to prepare your family for General Conference. If you have young children you may want to consider Conference Bingo or another attention activity. You may also want to hold a family home evening on General Conference. Be sure that you teach your children the blessings that we receive as we obey the teachings of the prophet. Your reverence and example are the greatest factors in how your children view conference, as they grow older.
