If you are getting ready for your fall planting, you might want to check out You Tube. There are some great videos on there that can give you some how to help that is easy to see and understand. From choosing what to plant to how to prune and start your own plants, You Tube is a great resource. Here are some of my favorite fall planting “how to” videos.
Horticultural Tip/Fall Planting
If you need some tips about planting shrubs, this is a really useful video. It talks about everything from drainage to avoiding backfill soil on top of the plant. It also talks about the importance of shaping and pruning the plant as part of the planting process. CCPCTV produced this segment. The instructor is very easy to understand and follow.
Here is a video that served as a quick talk show type segment that gives you some great basics. There is a good emphasis on establishing plants, such as with compost.
If you are interested in adding some trees to your yard, check out this home grown video from a local farm and nursery in Bucks County, Pa, not too terribly far from my house. While you might not be close enough to visit, the video gives a little tour of some of the different trees that are sold by the farm, along with some great information about specific types of trees, including one of my favorites, the Japanese Maple tree. The farm will also help you determine the right trees for your lot if you e-mail them photos of your yard.
