Family Award Ceremony

Everyone likes to feel special and to be acknowledged when they do something noteworthy. So, why not have a family award ceremony once each month to celebrate accomplishments and have fun together?

Have a secret vote where each family member writes down the name of the person he or she thinks should get that month’s award and why that person should win. Whoever gets the most votes, receives a special award. You can make special award ribbons for each other with directions found in Kids’ Crafts, which you can adapt for this occasion.

Display the award on the fridge or a bulletin board all month long until the next winner is chosen. Then, when that award comes down it can be saved or placed into a scrapbook. You might also decide to let the winner choose the meal for that evening or select a special dessert, pick out a movie, or decide on a family outing.

Award ribbonsIf you prefer, you can instead give each family member an award each month for getting good grades, remembering to do chores, doing something nice for someone, making a special meal, or anything else that makes others smile. Instead of one winner, everyone wins!

Then instead of one person picking the meal or an activity, you can all vote as a family on what to eat, what to do, or where to go. You can certainly come up with your own ideas to make it fun and special. There are many ways to create special events for your family.

Whichever way you choose to arrange a family award celebration, it will be a lot of fun and will give everybody something to look forward to each month. It’s also a great way to make sure good deeds and accomplishments are acknowledged and no one feels taken for granted.
