A gift-wrapping party is a lot of fun. It also helps gift-wrapping go by quickly. Everyone lends a hand and has a good time doing so. Of course, you’ll have to stash presents that are for your spouse and children, but the gifts you purchased for grandparents, other family members, friends, and teachers, can all be piled up in one place for the party.
Select a nice assortment of wrapping paper and collect plenty of packages of tape and some extra pairs of scissors (suitable for children). Gather nametags, bows, ribbons, and decorative items or candies that you would like affixed to packages.
Show kids how to wrap different sizes and shapes and how to make nice, neat corners. Show them how to curl ribbon (or do it for them if they are too small).
Instead of everyone wrapping at once, you may want to form an assembly line, assigning the following jobs:
- Remove price tags and package gifts in boxes as necessary
- Wrap and tape the package
- Cross items off list as they are wrapped
- Fill out and affix the nametag
- Add ribbons, bows, and decorations
- Place in box or bag according to where the package needs to go
Be sure to put on some Christmas music in the background so you can sing along while wrapping gifts. Make special snacks or hot cocoa for a nice treat.
You and your family will have fun talking, laughing, singing your favorite Christmas songs, checking out all the great gifts, and doing something creative together. Kids love being involved in holiday preparations, especially when they get to do the really fun stuff and then get to show off their handiwork.
Don’t worry if packages aren’t picture perfect. Let recipients know that the wrapping is special because the kids helped. This might just become one of your favorite traditions as it has at our house.
