Tuesday is going to be a big late afternoon/evening for us. Normally, we rush through Tuesday afternoons, but this time we will get to do something special, and our cost will be only $7.99.
My husband is going to be working from home that day, so he won’t have the extra time it takes to commute home. Because he starts early in the morning, he’ll be done with work by 4 p.m., the time that the school bus arrives carrying our eldest child. We’ll zip off to the library, where my son and his younger sister can get some free chess lessons, while the remaining three of us explore the rest of the library next door. We’ll pick up free books and perhaps even a movie or video game. There are free board games to play, as well as a huge map of the USA rug where we invent our own games, “jump to the state that is known for potatoes.”
Once chess is done, we’ll head over to the great park right behind the library for some more free fun. Although I always think I’ll let dad do all of the chasing while I read a book, I usually can’t help but join in for tag among the elaborate wooden climbing maze. There is also the other standard playground equipment available, such as swings.
After the park, we’ll head over to a local pizza place for our first real expense, a large pizza with toppings for only $7.99. I have a coupon of course. We’ll save on drinks by taking the pizza out to a scenic spot and making use of water bottles that we filled at home. Pizza always goes over well with everyone, so this will be a real treat. I do make pizza at home, but there always seems to be something special about take out.
How do you have inexpensive family fun?
