Family-Friendly Holiday Travel Destinations

There’s no time like the holidays to travel with your extended family. However, you don’t have to break the bank jetting off to a tropical island or a high-end ski resort to bond with grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles and cousins. Instead, consider checking out these affordable holiday-themed events and attractions that are ideal for family members of all ages:

CANADA

The Zoolights event at the Calgary Zoo is a real crowd pleaser. In addition to viewing the animals, you can take in an interactive light show that features more than 1.5 million twinklers. The zoo is also home to an amazing new conservatory, which boasts a garden oasis, in the middle of freezing cold Canada. Kids can also chat live with Santa at the North Pole via the zoo’s SantaVision.

PENNSYLVANIA

Gather the clan for a walk through Longwood Gardens’ winter wonderland. Located in Kennett Square, the gardens are dressed up for the holidays with tens of thousands of colorful lights, dancing fountains, festive music, and elaborate greenhouses with seasonal plants and flowers. You can also take in an ice-skating show on the gardens’ grounds.

LOUISIANA

New Orleans is shining brighter than ever this holiday season, thanks in large part to the Celebration in the Oaks. The annual attraction located in City Park boasts millions of lights in shape of holiday-themed objects. The decorated botanical garden also features a laser light show set to music.

TEXAS

For less than $20 per person you and your family can take a ride on the “North Pole Express.” The holiday-themed train ride takes off from Grapevine, Texas, and is filled with festive food and fun. The railroad station, which is decked out with thousands of Christmas lights, also boasts a live sing-a-long show, a bounce house, and an ornament-making factory. During the train ride you will be in for more singing, storytelling, cookies, hot chocolate, and a visit from Santa.
